If I were a betting man, and I am, I would say Luke is gonna get his pretty pink slip in the next 3 weeks unless he becomes over a .500 team very soon. As we know, general managers need a scape goat, and Luke, well naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Magic isn’t about to take blame for this, and he shouldn’t.
Magic put LeBron together with a pretty decent cast of characters (cough) so one would think someone like Luke could pull it together.
There have been a lot of rumors about Lakers coach Luke Walton getting shitcanned.
The Lakers are off to a lame 3-5 start, and given that they have arguably the best player suiting up for them, that’s not going to cut it going forward. Walton is in his 3rd season as Lakers head coach, and he’s compiled a 64-108 record during that time. Having a young team and the growing pains that come along with it helped buy Walton some time initially, but expectations are higher now, and the clock is ticking.
The term we’re seeing out there is ‘admonished’, and that sounds like what we think it would.
Walton was asked about the rumors on Friday, and he remained confident in his job as head coach. He didn’t appear to be fazed, and when asked about his job security, Walton said he “doesn’t feel like he’s going anywhere.”
It’s important to point out that James has a history of getting head coaches fired. If Walton isn’t LeBron’s “guy,” he could be on the outs — sooner than later. Frankly, we don’t expect him to last until 2019, but we’ll see how the season plays out.
